VOX V2 on the bottom connected to a TS-2000. Top interface is a well used KK7UQ design, serial PTT that the VOX unit has replaced..

Here is a design for a simple VOX interface between a sound-card and a rig. Pieces from KK7UQ’s design and KH6TY’s PTT circuit. It all fits in an Altoids tin. This is home-brew at its basics so proceed at your own risk.

Notes:

  • Grounds should be connected on each side of the transformers.
  • The use of the RJ45-B is from KK7UQ ( Manual ). A Cat 5 cable is then made to fit the rig. Neat. A Cat 5 cable wired for each rig.
  • C2 was originally 47 uf in KH6TY‘s schematic. That held the PTT open for too long between transmit and receive for modern digital modes. I substituted a 1 uf. Switch over is now quick enough for various modes: VaraFM, VARA. More to come.
  • I used audio taper pots. Getting the levels right is touchy. Perhaps linear would be better??

    Point to point.
