Tactical Addresses.

Tactical addresses are commonly used for emergency communications. In Winlink a tactical address is associated with one or more amateur call signs and can be used for both sending and receiving. Tactical addresses are usually assigned by the NCS or Net manager.

Create a tactical addresses in Winlink

  • Open Winlink Express Setup in the Settings menu.
  • To the right of ‘Auxiliary Callsigns …” Click [Add Entry]
  • Enter the tactical address. Elmer’s Tactical Address Page ( Link )  Winlink’s Help page ( Link )
    • Tactical Addresses are 3 to 12 total characters.
    • Tactical Format: alpha only -(dash) alpha and numbers

      • No numbers to the left of the -(dash)
      • A-Z, 0-9
      • No spaces or special characters.
    • Tactical Addresses are all CAPITALS.
    • eg. NOKOMIS, SHELTER-1, ARC-DOC, SCHL-2S, Aid-S2.
    •  
  • a Password not required for short term use.

    • A password will create an on-line Winlink account just like registering your call-sign.
  • When the event is over you can delete the tactical call

Using a Tactical Address

  • Sending:
    • open the new message window as normal and then in the drop-down From: box pick the tactical call you wish to use.
  • Receiving:
    • A Winlink users can use your tactical address in the To: field. To: SCHL-2, Case is insensitive and will be changed to all upper case.
    • From outside Winlink: SCHL-2@winlink.org
      • There is a separate whitelist for incoming non-ham (internet) emails. Elmer’s’ Whitelist page ( Link ) on Winlink’s help here: ( Link )
      • Add //WL2K to the subject for messages from outside the winlink system to get through the whitelist spam protection
      • Subject: //WL2K (now your normal subject
